Why did i join IMPACD?
In 2023, I joined the Impacted team during a challenging period of my life. I was in a wheelchair due to a brain injury that triggered Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). At the time, I was out of work and struggling with both my physical and mental health. When I saw a job opening at Impacted, an accessible arts-based company, I knew immediately that this was where I needed to be.
I began working on the Freedom to Explore project as a Project Support Worker. This experience was transformative for me. It helped me build a sense of community, regain my confidence, and, most importantly, the accessible dance-based workshops played a crucial role in my journey to walking again. For that, I am forever grateful.
Since then, I've continued to stay involved with Impacted after the Freedom to Explore project concluded. I’ve remained an active part of the team, contributing to various initiatives, including the Short Breaks dance and music workshops. These workshops offer safe and enjoyable activities for children with additional needs while providing much-needed respite for their caregivers. I've also been involved in the Forget Me Notts dance workshops in Rushcliffe and other impactful projects that Impacted leads.
I am deeply committed to the work we do at IMPACD because I truly believe in its importance. The organization provides something vital for everyone involved—a sense of community, support, and creative expression that can make a real difference in people's lives.
I am honored to be a part of it.
